Expecting
a baby is a special time in your life and we hope this brochure will answer some of
your questions about what to expect and some of the extra services available at this
surgery
GP Care
Dr Green has a Dip. Obstetrics and has obstetric rights to both hospitals in
Bunbury. If you are under specialist care then he can share this care with your
obstetrician who will then deliver you.
Visits
Every 4 weeks until 30 weeks, then Fortnightly until 36 weeks, then Weekly until
delivery.
At each visit the following will be checked Urine sample ( please do on arrival for
check-up) Blood pressure and weight Baby’s heartbeat
Booking an Obstetric visit
Start attending at about 8 weeks. Please let reception know it will be an
obstetric visit because it helps the GP to know ahead.
Tests
The following tests are routinely performed:
- blood group
- rubella immunity
- Hep B & C and other infectious diseases that would affect the developing
foetus
- Ultrasound:
12 weeks for Downs Syndrome Screen
18 weeks. Gives first glimpse of your baby and assures of normal development.
- Glucose Tolerance Test Done at 28 weeks to screen for diabetes of
pregnancy.
Down’s Syndrome Screen
You can choose to have a test which gives you risk ratio for Down’s Syndrome. This
is calculated combination of blood test at 10 weeks and ultrasound at 12 weeks. It is
not a definitive test but will alert of need for more testing.
Hospital Booking:
Around 20 weeks at Hospital of your choice. BRH patients can be booked here by
Elaine which is sent on to the hospital. Make an hour appointment with the
receptionist. You can make an appointment at BRH if you would prefer. SJOG patients
need to make an appointment to book in there.
Postnatal Check
Remember to book an appointment for 6 weeks after the birth. Make an appointment
for you and one for the baby. This is to ensure you are recvovering and the baby is
developing normally.
Post Natal Depression
A screening test called the EPDS is filled out at booking in to
ensure women are helped early on, and repeated after the birth by your child health
nurse to ensure you remain well after birth.
Support and help is offered early by identifying those at risk of PND
Postnatal Services
We offer:
- help with breastfeeding problems or if an infection occurs
- help with any concerns at all about you or your baby
- help with postnatal sadness or depression
- all childhood immunisations

Practice Nurse
Elaine is a qualified midwife and child health nurse who co-ordinates activities
in the surgery, including the practice prevention questionnaire. Elaine is available for:
- Support and discussion about health problems
- Any pregnancy questions
- Any help wtith post-natal care
- Breastfeeding problems
- Postnatal depression
- Follow-up help if required
- Antenatal booking in
- Immunisations for all ages
